PURPOSE

Vascarta® developed its patented topical/transdermal formulation to benefit patients by harnessing the full therapeutic  benefits of potent botanical pharmaceuticals such as curcumin. 

Our Chief Scientist (Professor Joel Friedman, MD PhD – Albert Einstein College of Medicine) invented a way both to increase solubility by >100X more than traditional curcumin topicals and to enhance deep penetration of curcumin through the skin upon topical application (United States Patent 11,484,493, published 01 Nov 2022).  The resulting water-free and highly stable Vascarta curcumin formulation not only enables substantially greater and sustained penetration deep into the skin versus conventional gel, cream, or ointment technology, but also, unlike curcumin orals, rapidly and efficiently access capillaries, our smallest blood vessels.  Once there, Vascarta’s curcumin formulation loads onto and into blood cells as well as into the plasma.  These blood cells can then distribute the beneficial curcumin, which creates enhanced efficacy.  With other topical curcumin formulations, the low concentrations and the lack of deep penetration result in curcumin being localized in the vascular-free top layers of the skin resulting in little or no systemic delivery to the circulatory system.
